The Nautilus is not just another rectangular block, but is an exciting design created by Walker Architects in the general shape of a fish and with every apartment afforded an ocean outlook. The concept, clad in composite aluminium panels was and is brilliant, however the build was not treated with the respect and expertise that it deserved.
As they had a fixed price contract the builders Brookfield Multiplex took every opportunity to “value engineer” the build and many important aspects were modified, changed or left out. Elements of the inspection and control of the build were sadly lacking and the end result is where the owners are now, with a complete strip and re-clad of the exterior weather shield being necessary.
The owners with assistance from Rainey Law and Prendos Consultants and other expert witnesses won their case in the high court and a copy of that ruling released on 29 April 2015 is here.
This site is for the current Owners and Occupants of The Nautilus Orewa to access information on the remedial project and be kept up to date with the schedule and progress of the works.
